Preston Lake Auctioned Off (Video)

The Preston Lake development has been in the news many times in the past year (Hburgnews.com has a little history).  Today provided another milestone in the saga, as the portion of the development associated with the current lawsuit was auctioned on the steps of the Rockingham County Courthouse, to an audience of curious home owners, real estate agents and media.  The included video captured the major moments in the 25-minute affair.

One surprise for the crowd was that four individual parcels with homes at various stages of completion were auctioned off separately:

  • Unit 9C sold for $270,680
  • Unit 10B sold for $39,960
  • Unit 11C sold for $157,760
  • Unit 12C sold for $79,080

The remaining property was auctioned off for $3,500,000.

Though at least one other person registered himself with the trustee as being prepared to make a bid, each auction item included only one bidder: a lawyer representing Wells Fargo (formerly Wachovia), the current lender.  There was a single successful bid on each property.

The fate of Preston Lake remains to be seen.  The lawyer spent about 10 minutes with Preston Lake property owners answering what he could about their questions about the future of the development.

If you have a few million dollars laying around, you might just be able to get yourself a deal from Wells Fargo -- make an offer!

Keith May, Keith.May@Cottonwood.com, 540-437-3500

Harrisonburg, VA – Kai Degner is ready to help area residents buy and sell homes. This week, he begins as a real estate agent with Kline May Realty, a leading residential real estate broker in the central Shenandoah Valley. “I’m excited about the opportunity to serve local residents in another way,” says Degner, who is also Harrisonburg’s mayor.

Degner is no stranger to the neighborhoods in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. “Knocking on a few thousand front doors in the last two years gives me some insight in the many neighborhoods and range of homes in our area,” says Degner, who has run for elected office twice. “That experience will allow me to help people searching for a new home.”

Keith May, principal broker with Kline May Realty, is enthusiastic of Degner’s joining the team. “We are very excited having Kai join the Kline May Realty team,” says May. “Kai is part of the new generation in real estate and he brings with him fantastic ideas, creativity, and new technology in how to best represent clients. His skills will serve him well in bringing real estate clients together.”

To feature his real estate business, Degner is launching www.LiveShenandoah.com, which will include information about buying and selling homes, a state of the art property search function, as well as things to do in the Shenandoah Valley.

Degner brings a range of experience to his new role. A double-graduate from James Madison University, he worked as a technology consultant before becoming executive director of the Arts Council of the Valley. Upon election to city council and appointment to Harrisonburg’s mayorship, Degner took a job as a Director of Business Services at the Fairfield Center, where he works with local organizations in their strategic planning and communications excellence training. While there, Fairfield created the popular Harrisonburg Summit series, a program Degner will continue to coordinate via Fairfield.
