Rockdem reports a great turnout of local candidates for Monday night’s Labor Day “Concert for Tomorrow.” On September 1, at 6:30 in Memorial Hall (former Harrisonburg High School), the auditorium will be filled with the first major gathering of local candidates. As of yesterday, five of eight city council candidates are expected to attend at the concert featuring Beatles Tribute Band Abby Road Live.
Having knocked on hundreds of doors myself, attending half a dozen house meetings, and having countless conversations with Harrisonburg residents has been a rewarding and motivating way to spend the first phase of the local election campaign. I’m convinced that our community is looking to build on the positive progress our past and current leaders have made, while also looking for proactive leadership advocating for smart growth, bikable and walkable roads, public transportation, and meaningful public input processes.
Thursday evening, over 350 people cycled through Clementine Cafe’s basement to hear about this campaign while watching the Democratic Convention. The diverse crowd brought together in common purpose community members and students like no event I’ve been a part of. It was truly inspiring. Tomorrow, I’ll speak along with other local candidates at Democrats’ Labor Day Banquet - close to 450 people are slated to attend. On Monday, there is an concert event planned with many local candidates at Memorial Hall, the former Harrisonburg High School.
This momentum and enthusisasm is motivating as we move into the final stretches of the local campaign!
I feel like that campaign is official now that my yard signs have arrived. Apparently people are anxious for them - my own sign stolen from my front yard this morning!
There are Kai Degner signs, and Baugh-Wiens-Degner signs. They are available at the Democratic Headquarters on High Street and by contacting me at Kai@KaiDegner.com.
